‘A Shady Spot in the Garden’ was inspired by days spent in the Jardin Majorelle, Marrakech. It references the jungle paintings of Henri Rousseau and the French Impressionists handling of paint to create movement in stillness, via short brushstrokes, as well as their depictions of light and shade. Through the vista, glimpses of Sinoir’s Cubist villa painted in bleu Majorelle are visible.
