Often the eye is drawn to the ground when wandering through beautiful gardens, as we enjoy the lower-level flora. Looking up enables us to enjoy gardens from an entirely new perspective. Palms shimmering in the blazing heat encapsulate Marrakesh; even mobile phone masts around the kasbah have been disguised as palm trees. At times, looking up in the Jardin Majorelle one imagines they may be in Miami or the Caribbean. Palm trees caught the imagination of artists including John Baldessari, Sigmar Polke, David Hockney, Edward Ruscha and Marcel Broodthaers.
